The SCIA Student Contest is an annual tradition, and gives students that are using SCIA Engineer a platform to show their exceptional skills in structural design.
This contest not only offers students the opportunity to gain exposure but also allows them to present their work to the international industry. Winners of the contest receive media coverage and a monetary prize.
The jury faced the challenging task of selecting only three winners. The high level of expertise demonstrated by the students in their respective fields of study is truly remarkable. At SCIA, we are delighted to witness these talented individuals joining the ranks of civil engineers, as they will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping our future.
Boris Dovicic, Czech Republic, Faculty of Civil Engineering BUT
Steel structure of a medium-span bridge
"This project impressed the jury by the complete nonlinear workflow that was followed to compare three variants of a steel bridge with a span of 100 meters. The real buckling shape was applied as an imperfection during the second-order analysis."
Stijn Van Mol & Bastien Lebrun, Belgium, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL)
Calculation of an aluminium bicycle bridge and bridge deck widening according to the Eurocodes
"The project emphasizes aluminium as a lightweight and durable material. A bicycle bridge with a span of 38.5 meters was calculated with a nonlinear analysis including second-order effects and imperfections and modal analysis. The Engineering Report was used to create the project documentation."
Oscar Prasuhn, Germany, Hochschule Bochum (Bochum University of Applied Sciences)
Reangular - A parametric timber roof project
"The student used a very nice approach to optimize a timber canopy via parametric design using Grasshopper, Galapagos and Koala. Multiple variants were analyzed with second-order effects and bow imperfections taken into account."
We want to give a big congratulations to the winners for their amazing achievements, and a big thank you to all the participants for sharing their projects with us.
