Seismic Spectrum Generator

A MS Excel VBA-based tool to define seismic spectrum into SCIA Engineer.

Input of Frequency/Period and Acceleration for a horizontal and vertical spectrum. Very useful when you want to generate the spectrum with formulas from a foreign national code, and import this into SCIA Engineer.

Instructions

Macros need to be enabled for this tool to work.

1. Make a backup copy of your SCIA Engineer project
2. Creating a spectrum in this excel workbook
   • Go to the Input-sheet in this excel workbook
   • Input a value for 'ID' and 'Name' (for the Horizonal and Vertical spectrum)
     • Item 'Name' must be unique
     • Item 'ID' equals 1 for the first spectrum, 2 for the second, 3 for the third, and so on
   • Input columns 'Line Nr', 'Frequency', 'Period' and 'Acceleration' (for the Horizonal and Vertical spectrum)
     • Item 'Line Nr' starts with value 1, then 2, then 3, and so on
3. Exporting the spectrum from this excel workbook
   • Go to the Input-sheet in this excel workbook
   • Click the [Export Spectrum]-button
   • Input a name for the XML-file that will contain the definitions of the spectrum
4. Importing the exported spectrum into SCIA Engineer
   • Open SCIA Engineer
   • Open the .esa project from point 1. (see above)
   • Select Main menu > File > Update from > XML file, and select the exported XML file from point 3. (see below)
