This dissertation is about the structural analysis of an irregular Memory Museum in Venice. The architectural drawings are designed by a group of professors and students from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
In general, the steel-concrete composite building has some interesting features such as long spanned cantilevers up to 4,60 m, irregularities in plan and elevation, a bi-lateral slab and a steel braced roof. Having applied all the load cases including permanent, variable, snow and wind loads, the load combinations are synthesized with a challenge in the multiple wind combinations for the braced canopy. A linear static, a geometrical non-linear and a modal response spectrum analysis are executed in order to justify the structure's behavior.
Finally, the evaluation of the structure and the member design are done according to Eurocodes via the SCIA tools and by hand calculations.
My name is Georgios Karavatos, I am 25 years old and I come from Thessaloniki, Greece. I graduated from the School of Civil Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2021. In the last years of my studies I realised that structural engineering was the division that I was interested in. After working on this project and having faced some challenges in the design, I cannot wait for the next real one!
